Although the popularity of near death experiences has drawn much attention in recent decades, near death experiences have, in fact, existed since ancient times in texts such as The Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Bible, and the Koran. The oldest and most famous Western recorded after life experience is Plato's The Myth of Er, which concludes Plato's Republic. Er dies in battle. Ten days later and after Er's body all the bodies are collected, Er's body remains undecomposed.
